10-year-old beauty queen visits IDPs camp, donates relief items
This is commendable! Teaching young people charity, giving, love, peace at the young age is vital to sustainable growth. I read this on vanguard today and thought to share with you all.
Miss kofoworola Lawal, 10-year-old Face of Hope Foundation 2015 beauty queen, on Saturday, visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The young beauty queen, who was accompanied by the Founder of the foundation, Miss Grace Ojo, said that the visit was part of the beauty queen’s pet project. Lawal won the 2015 Face of Hope children pageant in August 2015, a project of the Face of Hope Foundation.
Face of Hope Foundation is an NGO that empowers and reaches out to less privileged children through the provision of educational materials, clothings, food items and medical care.
According to the reigning queen, visiting the IDPs is her way of identifying with them in their plights, especially the children who have left their education and the comfort of their homes.
“These people, especially the kids in their midst, need to be properly cared for, and that is why we have come to visit them and give them some items.`
“It could be anyone else, that is why we are here to show them love and to raise their hope that they can still have the good things of life.’’
She, however, urged Nigerians to love one another, irrespective of tribe and religion and shun any act that could jeopardise the peace of the nation.
NAN reports that some of the relief items given to the IDPs include clothing, books and writing materials and food items. Alhaji Usman Adamu, the Deputy Coordinator of the IDPs camp located at Kuchingoro community along airport road, Abuja, who received the items, commended the NGO and the young beauty queen. He urged Nigerians to emulate the kind gesture, saying “government alone cannot take care of the displaced persons.
“Well-meaning Nigerians should remember the IDPs and extend their hands of care to them because they deserve good life as well.’’
Earlier, Ojo, the founder of Face of Hope Foundation, who led the team to the camp, called on corporate bodies and Nigerians to identify with the Foundation.
She said “the task of caring for the less privileged, especially children, lies on everyone of us.
“Companies and individuals are encouraged to identify with this project in terms of sponsorship.’’
Some of the IDPs expressed gratitude to the visiting queen and her team and urged government to do everything possible to get them back to their homes. (NAN)
