"The North Should Tackle Boko Haram or We will be consumed by it" - Gov Alhaji Kashim Shettima (Borno).
The ongoing killings in the north arising from the Boko Haram insurgency
should act as a wake-up call for the governors of the region to be
alive to their responsibilities, Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim
Shettima, said in Maiduguri yesterday.
Speaking when he was presented with an award of excellence by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Governor Shettima said should political leaders do what is right “the madness” of Boko Haram will disappear in just a few months.
He said in the next five years if something is not done urgently by the political leadership of the north to address the security challenge of the region many of them would lose all desired respect from the people.
“In the next five years, I am not a prophet of doom, if the trend continues like this; it may be difficult for some governors of the northern states to stay in their office to work’’ he also said.
One important lesson of the Boko Haram crises, according to him, is that the political leadership of the north must connect with the people.
