My weekend was domestic workload filled one, as I had so many arrangement to sort out at home. However, I sorted
all-out in addition to getting my girls ready for the new term resumption
today....Some will be wondering...Yes , am a mother too na...Abi my sisters kids are not mine? lol...
On today's Monday Chat Up, we will
be discussing on the magical touch of appreciation. Let’s begin by shedding few
lights on what appreciation is all about.
Appreciation can be seen as gratitude, or thankful recognition. The act of showing appreciation
can be seen as the way of
showing thankfulness for what someone did for you. Vocabulary.com states that - appreciation is all about understanding. When you show your appreciation to someone, you are thanking them, but you're also telling them that you understand what they have done and its value.
For a proper understanding of this write up, let’s ask ourselves
this candid question(s)
How do you feel each time you grant someone a favor and the person
fail to show any atom of appreciation? Do you ignore it as one of those things
people usually fails to do or do you feel disappointed and resolve not to help
the individual any other time he/she has need?
Definitely, I know most of us do not feel good about ungrateful
attitude people exhibit, most especially when we go out of our way to support
someone.
I have taken a deep notice that the act of showing gratitude is
something most of us fail to convey when a good deed is done to us. Some of us
even go to the extent of thinking that we deserve every good thing that comes
our way, so why thank someone?
Permit me to draw this scenario which I have seen in most homes. Our parents feed us, clothe us, provide shelter
and do everything in order to make our life on this earth comfortable. Tell
yourself the truth, how often do we say these words “Thank you Daddy/Mummy" from our deep of heart and
how often do we teach our kids who we are training on the important need for
one to show gratitude even at the slightest act of kindness someone show us.
My people,
showing appreciation is very very important in our day to day activities and we need to revive this culture starting with ourselves and our homes
The two religious bodies I am conversant with (Christianity &
Islam) preach/admonish the practice of thanking the Almighty God and Allah for
everything (He) has done in our life because it paves way for new blessings
from our creators.
Most of us do not understand the fact that the Almighty God expects us to be grateful for everything He has done for us and then show appreciation by thanking Him. I bet you, God bless those who acknowledge his kindness towards us and grant them more open doors because the bible even said he loves praises... Let me not dewal more on this angle because am not a pastor sha....lol

Looking at it from the human angle perspective, we are not
different from God. Most of us humans even expect appreciation more than the
God that gave us life and blessed us with so much blessings; but that is not to
say its a bad thing.
So to us human beings, we really want to be appreciated hence the essence of saying 'Thank you' can not be overlooked.
Most people have
lost opportunities because of their inability to thank people or someone who
has done something good for them no matter how small.
Let me tell you one secret fact and am sure few of us might be
aware of this ...I have noticed, some people intentionally test peoples
appreciation skills by helping them with little things and failure to get the
magical word 'Thank You' puts them off.
It is imperative to say that when we show appreciation to people
we have to make it very sincerely and make them feel that their effort of
trying to help was worthwhile and will always be acknowledged.
Note that when people feel that you say 'thank you' as a
necessity and not sincerely, the chance of helping you next time is very
minimal as well.
Sometimes, I ask myself what it will take one to say "Thank
You" from our heart of hearts because it won't take a hair off our body.
A very warm smile followed by 'thank you' is just enough to make a person feel appreciated. Remember, it should not just end there. There is a saying that “One good turn deserves another”. Hence when someone offers you help at one point and the person comes to you for help, it is appropriate that you reciprocate the kindness shown to you not minding if you have shown appreciation to the fellow or not.

Another important thing to take note of is that, it is never too late to show appreciation even if you remember people who you owe a "Thank you" message.
Sometime we think that once we were not
able to show appreciation at a particular time when a good deed was done
towards us, then there will be no need of going back to show appreciation. This
assumption is totally very wrong. It is never too late to show appreciation;
the beauty of showing appreciation is that the person will be glad that after
all you remembered to thank him or her.
My friends, please let us all endeavor to go out there and show appreciation for the good things that people have done in our lives because e kele onye eze, ome kwa ozo (If one thanks a king, he bless you more)
Before I close up todays chat up, let me ask us this few questions. Do you appreciate people's kindness towards you no matter how small? How do you feel when people appreciate your act of kindness? Does it spur you to do more?
As for me, God willing the feeling of helping people excites me and am thankful to God for giving me the resources to help out whenever the need arises despite how small.
Always remember Leonado Davinci's words “Knowing alone is not enough, we must apply. Willing alone is not enough, we must do!!!”

Yes... can do wonders on those who it is given to. People who are under critizism can not do half of what those who are given appreciation can do.
